AIDA - May 19, 2001 - (Broadway, Palace Theatre) Will Chase (u/s Radames), Taylor Dayne (Amneris), and Heather Headley (Aida). Shot from 7th row mezz, digital with nice zooms, some heads, but nothing major. Crystal clear, like it was shot yesterday.

AIDA - December 21, 2001 - (Broadway, Palace Theatre) Matt Bogart (Radames), Idina Menzel (Amneris), and Maya Days (Aida). Shot from 6th row mezzanine. Not digital (VHS-C), so it's shaky in parts; lots of heads. Complete show. Covered up during start of Act Two for latecomers. Only available as VOB!

Beautiful capture pre-Broadway show with no obstructions. Disney's newest theatrical production with a wonderful cast and lots of big production numbers.

Donna Marie Asbury is Belle from the beginning then right before the song "No Matter What" the video is switched and Belle is now played by Susan Egan. Also includes Opening Night show from Los Angeles TV with interviews with cast; behind the scenes. Quality is great, for a date as old as this.
The Beauty and the Beast - 1995 - (Los Angeles, Shurbert Theatre) Donna Marie Asbury (Belle), Yvette Lawrence (Belle), Michelle Lee (Belle), James Barbour (Beast), and Tom Bosley (Maurice). Highlights. This was supposedly recorded specifically for the Shurbert Theatre Organization for their archives. Great audio and video. However, taper always focuses on Lumiere whenever he makes an appearance, which disrupts the storyflow a little, especially during the finale, where the camera is fully concentrated on Lumiere and not Belle and the Beast. Also features three differents Belle's! (listed in order of appearance).
The Beauty and the Beast - 1995 - (Toronto, Princess of Wales Theatre) Kerry Butler (Belle), Chuck Wagner (Beast), Judy Marshak (Mrs. Potts), André Thérien (Lumiere), and Paul Brown (Cogsworth). Two TV specials on the Toronto Premier of the show. Both are terrific specials and together run just over an hour, with lots of footage. Multi-Camera Pro-shot.

Home video quality, especially regarding sound.

The Beauty and the Beast - March 11, 1999 - (Broadway, Palace Theatre) Andrea McArdle (Belle), William Michals (Beast), Steve Blanchard (Gaston). Recorded from the front row mezzanine. Occassional railing and object blockage on the bottom of the screen, and in Act 2 a new railing pops out of nowhere and covers the top of the screen as well. Some gen-loss. Lots of washout as well, so faces aren’t clear. Transformation scene is completely black, and tape jumps around for a few seconds during ‘If I Can’t Love Her’.

Benefit Function! Special Guests: Florencia Peña and Paola Krum as Belle during the song "Home". Recorded by a crew member from the lighting booth (right after the song “Beauty and the Beast” we see the equipment as the person filming puts the camera down). Also there is a speech at the end of the show and a man with a guitar comes onstage and sings a song with the cast and audience. Very interesting to watch!

Missing first 20 minutes. A head is often in the way but the taper usually records around it. Video’s a little grainy, but it’s clear enough.

The Beauty and the Beast - July 27, 2007 - (Broadway, Lunt-Fontanne Theatre) Anneliese van der Pol (Belle), Steve Blanchard (Beast), Chris Hoch (Gaston), David deVries (Lumiere), Jeanne Lehman, Glenn Rainey, Jamie Ross, Trevor Braun, Aldrin Gonzalez, Ann Mandrella. Good amount of closeups and good quality filmed from the mid-mezzanine; there is a railing issue for a while in Act 1 but the taper improves. 'Me', 'Gaston' and 'Be Our Guest' are all predominantly missing and recording stopped for some time after 'Gaston', which created a little jump in the timeline to where Maurice gets thrown out of the tavern. Still a nice video with great closeups of the last Broadway cast.

The Belle sucks but the rest of the cast are ok and the sets and costumes are wonderful. It looks very professional. I know the cast personally so I'm not going to list them or trade this DVD. Good picture but some gen loss. Music can drown out the voices slightly at times. Fantastic stage version of the animated film, beautifully visualised. This is the German version of the Disney Musical the Hunchback of Notre Dame which is Berlin’s longest running musical.

Great capture with great closups. The first 11 minutes after the overture are mostly blackouts due to late comers, after that no real problems. Bret did a nice job as understudy. Sierra and Sherie still rock with much greatness! Also includes the Part of Your World performance and interview on The View.
